Peat contains many ingredients that can be utilized in many ways. The most significant ingredients are humus and fulvo acids that are utilized as peat treatment. Humusmatter is also used in organic farming as plant growth and health promoting products. It is also possible to make ethanol from peat.
In addition peat is suitable for insulation and infiltration material and it can be used in filtration of well water sulphate. In cluding Geology research institute has reseached charasteristics of peat.

Hare's-tail cottongrass (eriophorum vaginatum) fibre developes as by-product in peat production. It doesn't cause allergy and it doesn't get electric, also it is absorbent and it's heating value is bigger than wool's.
Most of the peat is used as burn peat and horticultural peat. In addition peat has risen as significant factor in care sector and as raw material of hare's-tail cottongrass fibres.

Peat fibre used in textiles is obtained from hare's-tail cottongrass, which have been in swamp hundreds or even thousands of years. Fibres of hare's-tail cottongrass leaf sheaths converts suitable for textile usage when they decompose. While sifting the horticltural peat it is developed surplus rich in hare's-tail cottongrass from where fibre is separated for different textiles raw material. Her's-tail cottongrass fibre is used as raw material for fabric and yarns, insulations, filters and amongst other things in oil destruction measures.

Nurturing abilities of peat has been known in Middle-European spas from the 1800-century but in Finland usege of peat in treatments is not very common nowadays. Ancient nature healers knew the nurturing features of peat and they used peat and swamp water in healing poultice and baths.

Treatment peat is dug from clean and untouchable swamp. The location of swamp and forms of terrain impacts the composition and character of the peat. Because of that peat dug out from anywhere doesn't have necessarily good qualities for treatments. For example swamps that are trenched doens't have good treatment peat because trenching causes dissolution of nurturing compounds in the water and so reduces the nurturing effect. If the swamp is located at agricultural or intensive forestry's sphere of influence, allergenic substances and asubstances irritating to the skin might accumulate in to the peat. Thats why it is important that the swamp and the peat dug from it is researched carefully. Also machinery used in digging must clean properly so harmful substances and bacteria doesn't get to peat raw material.

Nurturing peat is examined with particular microbiological tests to find out the quality and quantity of possible harmful bacteria. Producst are also tested with skin- and allergytests and also the heavy metal content is found out. Nurturing peat can be used as whole body mask, foot and hand treatment, hair and scalp treatment and local treatment.

Hare's-tail cottongrass blooms at sphagnum bogs, pine swamps and bogs at early April. Inflorescence is modest, the spike is grey and the lenght of the plant is in this stage 10 – 15 centimetres. In May-June the plant is in fruit stage and the plant is identifiable from its white fruit fluff. In this stage the plant is half a metre long. The proper fibre that is used in textile industry is the plants leaf sheath.

Peat is harvested from four peat bogs: Kurgsoo I, Kurgsoo II, Põdra, and Roosa. The harvested peat is white raised-bog peat with a humification degree of 1-3 and a pH value of 2,5 - 4,5.

Our peat products come in 165L, 250L, 275L, 300L and 6000L (also known as Big Bale) bags. In addition to Estonia we have clients in Latvia, Lithuania, Italy, Germany, Greece, and Finland.
